Social Landlords Housing Management and Leasehold Services Seminar: Leasehold property: buying, varying and extending Leases

Date: Tuesday 18th March
Time: 3.30pm registration for a 4.00pm start
Venue: British Library, St Pancras, London

Managing Leasehold property can be a particularly complex area for Housing Associations. This free seminar reviews three situations:

What Leaseholders should know when they buy
Dealing with Leaseholders can be problematic, especially when they claim they are not aware
of services charges, sub-letting, pet and parking restrictions. This session will explain how you can ensure that Leaseholders know their obligations and financial liabilities, including the effect of
the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

This will be of particular relevance and interest to Sales Team and Leasehold Housing Managers and Officers.

When you need to vary all Leases on a development
If a Lease does not fully provide for major works and improvements or recovery of associated costs, how does the Landlord change the Leases? This session will explain how to obtain essential variations to leases when universal Leaseholder approval is absent. In particular, it will guide you through the First Tier Tribunal process.

This will be especially useful for Leasehold Managers and Officers involved in consulting, commissioning or seeking payment for major works.

Lease Extensions: opportunity and requirement
The premiums for extending Leases of 80 years or less can provide a significant capital contribution to Housing Associations. This session will provide an essential overview of the criteria and procedure for extending Leases on either a discretionary basis or under statute.

It will be of particular relevance to Finance Managers and Leasehold Managers and Officers.

Guest speaker Steve Chapman will be joining Prince Evans’ Partners Anthony Best, Jeremy Teall and Senior Solicitor, Kerry Hicks. Steve is Secretary of the National Housing Association Leaseholder Group and also works for Catalyst Housing Ltd. We all look forward to welcoming you to an informative seminar.
