Anti-Social behaviour – New Laws or new nuisance? A new approach

Date: Wednesday 11th June
Time: 3.30pm registration for a 4.00pm start
Venue: British Library, St Pancras, London

Dealing with anti-social behaviour issues can be a complex, costly, time consuming and frustrating business for Housing Associations and Local Authorities.

This free seminar explains how the new legislation will introduce simpler and more effective powers to tackle ASB that provide better protection for victims and communities. The improvements will also give victims a greater say in how agencies respond to complaints of ASB and in out-of-court sanctions for offenders.

Guest speaker Barrister, Mr Andrew Lane from Hardwicke Chambers will be sharing his case experience.

The seminar will cover the following areas:

The Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014
We will give an overview of the new laws and the new remedies, from a list of 19 ASB tools, which governed previous responses to anti-social behaviour, and how these are to be streamlined into just 6 tools in order to enable local involvement and accountability.

Alternative remedies
This will include how to address ASB using a multi-agency approach and how to utilise the two new community engagement measures introduced by the Act ‘Community Remedies’ and ‘Response to Complaints’.

Vulnerable tenants
We consider the vulnerable tenants beyond the medical reports to include the elderly, those with learning difficulties and hoarders in order to identify the appropriate support required.

This seminar will be of particular relevance to those whose housing management functions are being affected by Anti-Social / Nuisance behaviour involving vulnerable tenants.

Partners Anthony Best and Jeremy Teall, together with Associate, Sharon Porter-Gayle and Solicitor, Aisha Akhtar of the leading Social Housing Law Firm, Prince Evans Solicitors LLP, share their knowledge and experience on current housing management and Anti-Social Behaviour issues.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to this very useful and instructive event.
